Lift Kits FAQsWhat are Lift Kits?Jeep lift kits give you additional ground clearance in your Jeep for traveling over obstacles as well as more fender clearance for installing larger wheels and tires. Application of quality components and proper installation can actually deliver improved handling performance for your Jeep as well. There are two major types of lift kits and they are Suspension Lift Kits and Body Lift Kits (there are other ways of raising your vehicle such as a "spring over axle" kit, shackle reversal, coil spring spacers, etc.). With Body Lift Kits you basically unbolt the body from the frame, and place manufactured blocks between the Jeep's body and the rolling chassis. This doesn't directly increase the clearance of your undercarriage, but it does allow you to run larger tires, which will in turn increases your Jeep's clearance. Suspension Lift Kits will directly increase the clearance of your Jeep. They call for installing taller suspension components (higher lift springs and longer recoil shocks). Suspension lifts also allow you to run larger tires further improving ground clearance. Lift Kits BenefitsSuspension lifts allow for better articulation and handling off-road in your Jeep. If you want the lift just for looks a body kit may suffice, but, if you want articulation, the suspension kit is the way to go. Installation of any lift kit will change the handling of your Jeep. They all raise the center of gravity and thus affect side-to-side handling. This can be managed by combining the lift with wider tires. Depending on the size of the kit you install and the model of your Jeep, you may need to consider installing a dropped Pitman arm, longer brake hoses, a transfer case drop, a CV drive shaft and a slip yoke eliminator kit (due to a change of the angle of the drive train).
