Jeep Exhaust Systems Jeeps are an American Classic offroad vehicle. They are off road driving machines built to take the punishment that is dished out by rocks, hills, mud, sand and any other type of terrain you can think of. No matter who the manufacturer has been, Jeep has earned the reputation of being a well-built vehicle, and they have long been admired by the offroad enthusiast as a tough and extremely reliable machine. One of the systems that needs to be maintained on your Jeep due to corrosion and wear and tear is the Exhaust. The exhaust is made up of manifolds, pipes, catalytic converters, and mufflers. It handles the process of moving exhaust gases from the motor to a safe exit area away from your Jeep. The first major element in this chain is the Jeep’s exhaust manifold (or a header). Exhaust manifolds are usually made of cast iron. They bolt onto the cylinder head and are exposed to a lot of engine heat. Because of this, they need to be constructed well. The better made Jeep exhaust manifolds have smooth and gently angling curves to maximize exhaust flow thus improving the engine's performance. To increase engine performance, headers that are made for lower resistance are used in place of exhaust manifolds. The next major element in the exhaust system is the Jeep's Catalytic Converter. The catalytic converter is where the chemical reaction occurs in which unburned or partially burned hydrocarbons complete the combustion process to dispose of harmful toxins. If your catalytic converter is no longer working properly, it can negatively impact your engine's performance. It can be replaced with a high-flow unit that is designed to lower back pressure and maximize your Jeep's power and gas mileage. The final major element in the exhaust process is the Jeep's Muffler, which is used to baffle and lower the exhaust noise. There are aftermarket performance mufflers made to lower the back pressure and improve your Jeep's performance just as with the Catalytic Converter. The exhaust is finally removed from under the vehicle by the Jeep's Tailpipe, which attaches directly to the muffler. All of the major exhaust components are connected to each other by exhaust pipe. XtremeTerrain.com offers aftermarket replacement units for your Jeep's exhaust such as exhaust manifolds, catalytic converters, mufflers and tail pipes. We also have high-performance headers, mufflers and cat-back (from the catalytic converter on back) systems for your Jeep if you want to improve it's engine performance. Whether you drive a Jeep Wrangler, Jeep CJ, Jeep Cherokee, or Jeep Grand Cherokee there are a number of options for you to select from with XtremeTerrain.com. | |||||||||||||
